Other Facilities
Edwards
is blessed with some distinctive features. Our 132 acres consist
of marshlands, pine forests, prairies, and wooded dells; all with
easy trail access. Our buildings are rich with history and tradition.
Our program facilities are unique and create an excellent opportunity
for learning and fun outdoors.
Micklewright
Lodge: Originally named Totem lodge, this
lodge was built in 1929 when the camp was first opened. Early photos
show that the lodge stood strong and tall back in 1929, as it does
today. Named after EE Micklewright, Micklewright lodge is a multi-purpose
facility and serves as the primary indoor program area for cabin
groups. Micklewright Lodge houses the dining hall, kitchen, business
office, the loft, two staff apartments, the infirmary, a covered
porch overlooking the lake, the environmental education center,
the program office, and deck overlooking the marsh and lake.
Edwards
Lodge: Home of the famous
Trading Post (camp store). This lodge has two levels and is built into
the back of Sunset Hill. Edwards lodge doubles as a classroom or
indoor meeting space.
Outdoor
Study Stations: Three outdoor study stations; pines, marsh and
ropes, are used as sheltered meeting spaces and classrooms. Each
station is complete with bench seating, a table/workspace, and two
skylights.

Boardwalk:
This elevated pathway stretches across acres of marshland. The boardwalk
is one-half mile long connecting main camp to Tamarack and Edwards
Island.
Chapel
on Sunset Hill:
Our outdoor chapel sitting on top of Sunset
Hill overlooks the amazing sunsets on Lake Beulah. Wooden benches
and a simple wooden cross make a great place to have a service or
a place to sit quietly and reflect.
Campitheater:
The Campitheater is our open air stage
and performance building. Complete with costume shop and dressing
room, lights and sound, and comfortable seating for the audience
this new building will be used for many events.
Lueck
Boat House: Checking in and putting on a life jacket are a must
before going boating. All summer boating participants make their
first stop at the boathouse. Boating at Edwards includes canoes,
rowboats, sailboats, and kayaks. This covered building doubles as
a classroom or meeting space with lights and benches.
Observatory:
A night under the stars and a great opportunity to explore astronomy
is available using the Edwards telescopes. Edwards has a small Monolux
telescope and a large Meede Series 4000 with microprocessing control
and a LX Quartz pulse drive. The telescopes are housed in the slide-back-roof observatory.
The
Great Deck Built off the side of
Micklewright lodge, our new deck overlooks the wetlands, the lake,
and Edwards Island. This spacious deck has four picnic tables and
plenty of open space.
Pontiac
Hill and Pines Fire Circle: These sites have great fire circles
and seating for a wonderful campfire experience. Pontiac Hill lies
in the heart of the hardwood forest and Pines Fire Circle lies between
the old pines and new pines plantation.
The Waterfront: With a large swimming area and surrounding dock,
all Edwards participants can enjoy the fresh waters of Lake Beulah.
The swimming area is divided into three main sections, white (1ft-3ft),
red (3ft-7ft), and blue (8ft-12ft).
The
Seawall: Our new rock foundation
sea wall is practical and wildlife friendly. Red granite rocks stretch
along the waterfront area to help protect erosion and control access
to the water. The biggest advantage to the new seawall is its beautiful
and natural appearance. |
